Are You Ratchet?

Sheneneh Jenkins (Martin) is the epitome of ratchet.
Ratchet. It's a term that I've been hearing for awhile now -- a year to be exact. It was new and I didn't fully know the meaning of the word. Of course I had an idea -- a woman of substandard quality.

Now that's somewhat vague to a person that isn't familiar with ratchet behavior, but if you watch Jerry Springer or Maury, then you have an idea of what ratchet means. If not, Urban Dictionary defines the word with clarity and it's everything you'd fathomed it would be.

Ratchet, traditionally a ghetto fabulous or a want-to-be diva. Think acrylic nails, weave, and a loud mouth (e.g. Sheneneh Jenkins); the girls on YouTube twerkin' it (e.g. Caramel Kitten); femmes that believe being a baby-momma is cool and acceptable.

In any event, some of you are ratchet and don't even know it. If you're confused about your ratchet-status, I suggest you look up the word.
